It was an enjoyable event, including an impromptu dance between Senator Espada and a 98-year-young lady, in celebration of the everlasting love and work of motherhood.

National Night Out is a celebration and promotion of the tremendous collaboration of our local community organizations, businesses, and precincts in the prevention of violence and crime. As the New York State Senate Majority Leader, and as a parent and a grandfather with ten grandchildren, I have worked hard to create a Bronx that is free of violence, a community that respects women and protects our most vulnerable populations. I have fought hate crimes in my district, provided help to victims of violent crimes, and put up rewards to capture and convict perpetrators.
Tuesday, August 3rd is America’s Night Out Against Crime
In an effort to increase public awareness and encourage participation in local anticrime efforts, Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. notes that Tuesday, August 3rd (between 7 and 10 PM) is National Night Out — “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
Last year, according to the organization's website, involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide held events.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic March on Washington, where the late civil and human rights icon delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
