Honoring Mothers at JASA Senior Center

Press contact: Franck LaBoy 718.220.5480May 21, 2010: More than 105 seniors were present when New York State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. visited with senior moms at the JASA Senior Center located at 3880 Sedgwick Avenue. It was an enjoyable event, including an impromptu dance between Senator Espada and a 98-year-young lady, in celebration of the everlasting love and work of motherhood.

Joy Cousminer - 2010 Woman of Distinction

    Tuesday May 25, 2010 - Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and the NYS Senate honored Joy Cousminer as one of several 2010 Women of Distinction in New York State.

    Joy Cousminer is President/CEO of Bethex Federal Credit Union, and one of its original founders.  She spearheads all strategic planning, daily management, marketing and more.

Town Hall Meeting Postponed

Joint Statement from State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and Reverend Diego Delgado, Pastor of the Church of the Mediator - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -     "For the safety of the congregation and community residents who signed up to ask questions about job creation and economic development, affordable housing and rent relief for tenants, education, senior services and a number of other issues important to poor and working families in the 33rd district, we are postponing the town hall meeting that had been scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Church of the Mediator.


2010 National Night Out

    National Night Out is a celebration and promotion of the tremendous collaboration of our local community organizations, businesses, and precincts in the prevention of violence and crime.     As the New York State Senate Majority Leader, and as a parent and a grandfather with ten grandchildren, I have worked hard to create a Bronx that is free of violence, a community that respects women and protects our most vulnerable populations. I have fought hate crimes in my district, provided help to victims of violent crimes, and put up rewards to capture and convict perpetrators.

Tuesday, August 3rd is America’s Night Out Against Crime

In an effort to increase public awareness and encourage participation in local anticrime efforts, Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. notes that Tuesday, August 3rd  (between 7 and 10 PM) is National Night Out — “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Last year, according to the organization's website, involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide held events.
