2012 Legislative Session Survey

Dear Friend,

The 2012 New York State Legislative Session is fast approaching. Job creation and strengthening our economy remain my top priorities and there is no doubt that this will be a major focus of  our discussions and planning in Albany.

 Last year, The Senate Majority  closed a $10 billion budget deficit without raising taxes or fees and worked closely with Governor Andrew Cuomo to enact a two percent property tax cap and other economy strengthening building blocks. We need to do more in 2012.

Less Mandates - Lower Taxes

Overburdened taxpayers in the Capital Region and across the state are desperate for relief. The Tax Cap was a great first step but to actually cut property taxes, county governments need relief from unfunded mandates handed down by the State. Medicaid is largest mandated budget item for every county in New York State and is the primary reason that New Yorkers pay the highest property taxes in the nation. I have authored legislation that will remove the Medicaid burden from county government, allowing local government to reduce local taxes, not just slow their growth.Over 100 state and local officials from around the state have signaled their support for this bipartisan legislation, and you can too.Sign the petition below to show your support.
