I am amazed at the double standard used by Governor Andrew Cuomo when he threatened the unions by saying “If you are linking political contributions to a specific vote, you might get a call from the Attorney General, the District Attorney or JCOPE.”

While speaking with State Senator José Peralta from Queens, I learned about a problem in which most of the Hispanic legislature, especially the leaders of Somos, have gotten into with the labor unions in New York State.

As you know, Somos is an activity celebrated every year in Albany and coordinated by the Hispanic legislators in order to create a “Hispanic Agenda in favor of the Hispanic Community.”

Senator Dean Skelos ate all of the candy…..He’s got #63.

In the latest negotiations for the New York State Senate district lines, Senator Dean Skelos has proven himself to be the smartest one of all.

A few days ago, the New York State Attorney General conducted a press conference to announce that thanks to the good work of his office, he just indicted Mr. Clement Gardner, the chief fiscal officer of the Christian Community Benevolent Association for criminally directing payments to himself.

Serrano v Addabbo – The Battle of the Hair

You should know that here in the New York State Senate, aside from the 62 Senators taking care of the people’s business, voting on the Budget, and proposing pieces of legislation, there is a lot of competition that takes place among the Senators and staff members.

“Cursed is the one who trusts in man” (Jeremiah 17:5) … “Let God be true, and every man a liar.” (Romans 3:4)

These biblical passages bring to mind the struggle that the New York Dominican community and their leaders have been engaged in for many years in their efforts to be effective in the political landscape of New York City in this great State of New York.

In this fight, the Puerto Rican leaders have been very helpful and have tried to do everything possible to open doors to help Dominicans.

Americans have a special affection for people who “die with their boots on”. We think of them as folks who never give up, never give in, and keep fighting until the very end.

With the new Congressional district lines yet to be decided, there may be many individuals who will never even get the opportunity to even put their boots on.

I am disappointed and sad to learn that the latest New York State political corruption trial names New York State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Thomas Libous in trial testimony.

I have always considered Senator Thomas Libous to be a serious, straight-forward and responsible legislator, even though we disagree on some issues.

Manhattan County Chair Assemblyman Keith Wright is dead wrong. (And so is Bronx County Chair Carl Heastie.)

By this time I'm pretty sure you already know about the desperate struggle we’re having to maintain the strength and future of Black and Hispanic communities in New York State.

You should know that the way the lines have been drawn to define our districts is detrimental to our communities. The proposed lines will dilute the power for our people that we have gained through hard work and strong leadership.

What a slap in the face to all Bronx residents – especially to all the Members of the Bronx Assembly Delegation!

Yes, my dear reader, you should know that the New York State Assembly and Senate leaders have submitted proposals for re-districting the Congressional district lines in the Bronx, carving the Bronx into five Congressional Districts, and neither of them is a pretty picture.

The Bronx is not a colony.

You should know that I am just calling it the way I see it: the way the district lines have been drawn for New York’s Congressional seats indicates to me that there are some people who still believe in colonies.
