The government is cutting social services for the poor, to the elderly they are reducing their meals and closing their senior centers, they are cutting our children’s education and turning their backs on the needy… all of this to balance the state’s budget.

My dear reader, you should know that all these aberrations are happening to the poor in our communities and the governor continues to cut their services. At the same time there are certain institutions that receive billions of dollars at the expense of the suffering poor.

New York State Senator Reverend Diaz Reacts to Bronx Shooting

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has released the following statement in response to news reports of a 10-year old girl who was grazed by a bullet yesterday in the Bronx on her way home from school:

“My prayers and thoughts go out to the 10-year old girl who was shot Wednesday afternoon on her way home from school. I thank the Lord that she is expected to be fine, and hope that she will be able to put this trauma behind her fairly quickly, resume her life as a child, not fear her walk to and from school, and not fear growing up in her neighborhood.

Assemblyman Denny Farrell shows no respect for Bronx residents, for Bronx elected officials, and especially no respect for the Bronx’s growing Hispanic population.

“You must understand, for the last 40 years, whatever district Charlie Rangel wants, we give it to him. I say, ‘Charlie, we can’t draw anything else in the state till we draw you.’ That’s always been our position — we do you and then everything. He’s the dean. He’s the No. 1.”

Our boycott against the newspaper, “El Diario La Prensa” apparently has resulted in a slow but sure downfall. Their house has collapsed, forcing them to find a buyer to resuscitate the corpse.

For Immediate Release January 17, 2012

Senator Rubén Díaz (D-Bronx) released the following statement:

“This is the first time that a Governor’s Budget Presentation contained such an emphasis on children’s education.

“Governor Cuomo today presented an incredible plan to improve the education of our children and his plan certainly caught my attention.

“There have been many occasions where I have disagreed with Governor Cuomo, but I certainly hope he continues on the path he has created to improve the education of our children.”

No newspaper, nor any media source with the exception of the New York Post newspaper, published the defeat suffered by the administration of President Barack Obama at the hands of the Supreme Court.

You my dear reader, should know that the Supreme Court voted unanimously; with nine (9) votes in favor and zero (0) against, that the federal Government cannot impose on any religious group or on any church who they choose as its Pastor.

Martin Luther King, Jr. 2012 Greetings

On January 16, 2012, we celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. I extend warm greetings to my African-American brothers and sisters and all people of good will who follow Dr. King's example.

On April 4, 1968, Dr. King was taken from us, much too quickly and much too violently. Yet, the manner in which he left us is not what I wish to dwell on today. Rather, I believe it is important to reflect on the lessons he left us, the lessons of his life and the lessons of his legacy.

Senate Bill 6087

For your information, this is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Martin Golden and so far cosponsored by me and six other senators. If passed and signed into law by Governor Cuomo, this bill will allow all churches to use school buildings and school sites for religious meetings and worship when school is not in session in New York State. We are working very hard to get more senators to sign onto this bill.

Yours Truly,

State Senator Rubén Díaz (SD 32)

The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, has decided to prohibit churches and religious groups from using auditoriums in public schools for worship services to our God.

You should know that this is not the first time that Mayor Bloomberg has demonstrated his rejection of everything that has to do with religion.

During the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers- where more than three thousand people died- Bloomberg forbid formal prayers and the participation of religious leaders, including the Catholic church’s Archbishop Timothy Dolan.
