Education for all our children!

You should know that with the legislative session concluding this month, Governor Cuomo and legislators can still accomplish much before we go home and campaign.

Among the positive things we can do in our remaining time in Albany is to pass into law the Education Investment Tax Credit bill to help thousands more families obtain private scholarships to attend pre-k through 12 schools, including private and parochial schools.

That Blue Sky, that is not Blue and is not a Sky

You should know that with the endorsement of the Working Families Party to the re-election efforts of New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, the hopes and aspirations of our Democratic State Senate Conference of becoming the majority and ultimately take control of the Senate have gone all the way up to the sky.

You should also know that back in my college days at Lehman College in the Bronx, I used to have a philosophy teacher that used to tell us “Oh my dear children, that blue sky that is not blue and it is not a sky.”

Worst Are Those who Have Eyes That Work and Cannot See

You should know that election time is right around the corner, and soon enough, you will find volunteers knocking on your doors to collect signatures, and asking for your cooperation to help their candidates qualify to appear on the ballot.

You should know that it is both ironic and frustrating to hear about the negative reception many volunteers experience while knocking on the doors to collect signatures from registered voters.

The Dirty Tricks Some Landlords are Playing to Feed on the Pain and Suffering of Our Community

You should know that there are many landlords who are forcing people out of their homes so they can make more money by using those apartments as cluster-site housing for homeless families, and my Senatorial District has become a hot spot for this scam. These landlords are playing very dirty tricks, and this is ruining many people's lives and making our neighborhoods unstable.

Gone with the Wind

You should know that since the New York State Democratic Convention has come to an end, the expectations and aspirations of New York's minority community are gone with the wind.

You should know that even though Hispanics have become a great voting bloc in New York State, no Hispanic has ever held a statewide office. You should also know that there is no diversity in New York State's 2014 all-white state-wide Democratic ticket. The candidates are: Andrew Cuomo, Kathleen Hochul, Eric Schneiderman, and Tom DiNapoli.

The War on Women at The New York Times

You should know that for the past few years, the so-called "War on Women" expression has been used whenever possible as the vanguard of the liberal cause. You should also know that the New York Times - the most liberal newspaper in the United States - holds itself as the champion of women and uses this phrase to attack Conservatives in particular, whenever possible.

What Ever Happened to the War On Women?

You should know that there are some groups of people who go around claiming that there is a war on women, wasting no opportunity to accuse certain people and organizations of being participants in this so-called war on women. Those groups are always demonstrating, picketing, holding press conferences, and doing all kinds of things to call media attention to promote their claim that there is a war on women - and that they are organized to protect and defend women at all cost.

A Real Travesty of Justice

You should know that the people of the Bronx, especially those residing in the area of the South Bronx which is covered by the 41st Police Precinct, will soon see their crime statistics going up costing their property and car insurance premiums to also go up.

You should also know that the irony of this is that this will happen even though crime in the area has come down and the area has become one of the safest in the Bronx. But because crimes committed inside the prison (house of detention) are applied to local police precincts, the people of the Bronx are the ones being punished and paying the price for it.

Things That You Should Know

You should know that on June 24, 2014, New York State will host its Primary only for candidates running for the US Congress. This legal change was made 2 years ago when Federal District Court Judge Gary L. Sharpe ruled in a lawsuit that a September primary will not allow sufficient time to send absentee ballots to military voters. This will be the second time that New Yorkers will experience separate primaries for federal and state races.
