On June 24th I voted my conscience and opposed Governor Andrew Cuomo's key piece of social legislation in the New York State Senate that redefines our marriage laws away from the traditional definition of one man and one woman. I was the only Democrat in the Senate to vote against this legislation, and I wear my vote as a badge of honor.
NEW YORK - Bronx state Senator Ruben Diaz, the lone Democrat to vote against landmark the gay marriage bill in New York, reflected on the defeat Monday, saying Christians need to organize better against gay marriage and support candidates who share their values.
Diaz, one of the 29 senators who voted "no" on the gay marriage legislation, is known as one of the most vocal opponents against the bill. He held a massive rally against the bill weeks before it was introduced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to the state Legislature. When the bill was introduced for a vote Friday, he was also the only senator to speak against the bill on the floor.
Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz along with Thousands of Evangelicals Will march in the Evangelical Children’s Parade
State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz states that with more than 50 floats, marching bands, and displays of biblical passages, thousands of Evangelical Christians will march in The Evangelical Children’s Parade which will be held this Saturday, June 18 at 12:00 pm throughout Third Avenue, from 97th Street to 118th Street in “El Barrio”, the heart of the Hispanic community.
Men, women and children will march in support of their moral, traditional and family values.
It's just appalling to see the double standard used by the Office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman when dealing with alleged corruption by elected officials who serve as legislators and his or her donors versus the way he deals with the New York's Governor and his donors.
When an elected official is accused of favoritism in assigning funds to community groups in his or her district or helping a friend who donates to his or her campaign, the office of the Attorney General and the press will immediately call for an investigation and such elected official or community group will be accused of hanky panky.

Senator Reverend Diaz Prays for Congressman Anthony Weiner
New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has released the following statement today about United States Representative. Anthony Weiner (D-NY):
“The Bible teaches us to take care of others and to help others when they are down.
It is appalling to witness the way that Congressman Anthony Weiner’s colleagues have been running away from him during these past few days. It is just shameful to see how many of Congressman Weiner’s supposed friends – especially those who are elected officials – have abandoned him as the media makes a total mockery of him.
This letter is to object to the Coors Light Beer ads that are being displayed in New York to promote the 2011 Puerto Rican Day Parade.
While we all welcome corporate sponsorship to help make our Puerto Rican Day Parade celebration special, Coors Light is sponsoring Parade ads that show large bottles of beer with the "Emboricuate" which means "become Puerto Rican" message below the ad. Puerto Ricans are proud of our rich tradition and culture. The false impression these ads suggest is that drinking beer is an central part of our culture.
We welcome sponsors to help celebrate our heritage - not messages that suggest that we want people to come to our parade to get drunk with us.
