This past Tuesday night, the Iglesia Evangelical Refugio de Salvacion was burglarized.  The criminals involved left a note on the altar of this church with anti-Hispanic comments.

This is not an isolated incident. 

While this church was being vandalized, the Southern Poverty Law Center released a report that documents what is a serious problem in Patchogue, is a growing national problem.

Bill Creates Felony Charges for Patronizing or Promoting Prostitution Within 1,000 Feet of School Grounds

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to protect the welfare of children by creating new crimes of promoting or patronizing prostitution near school grounds. The bill (S.1313A) would make schools safer by enabling law enforcement to charge anyone involved in the sex trade and acting within 1,000 feet of school grounds with a class E felony.

“I’m sharing this information for everyone to see that unfortunately, people are still protecting crimes against children in New York. Senate Bill 1313B was passed in the Senate and the Assembly, but for some reason there is an effort underway to derail it. This law would help shield school children from witnessing open and notorious acts of prostitution as they walk to and from their schools.

New law makes prostitution near a school a felony in New York City

State Sen. Ruben Diaz held a rally against prostitution near West Farms Schools in January. He called a law making sex work near the school a felony "a big step in protecting our children".

Harsher penalties for selling sex near school grounds are now in place, thanks to legislation authored by a Bronx senator and signed into law by Gov. Cuomo last week.

State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. first proposed the bill that will now slap pimps, prostitutes and johns caught plying their illicit trade within 1,000 feet of a school with automatic felony charges.
