Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz Outraged by News of Sexual Assault Against Elderly Bronx Senior
As Chair of the New York State Senate Aging Committee, Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz (D-Bronx) issued the following statement today after hearing a report that a 79-year old senior citizen woman was stripped naked, beaten up and raped at 1400 Benson Street in The Bronx: “It is sickening to hear today’s report about the assault, beating and forcible rape of an elderly Bronx woman. Whoever committed this crime must be arrested immediately and imprisoned.
New York State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. will join State Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr., Chair of the State Senate's Committee on Aging at a press conference to be held in front of 1400 Benson Street in The Bronx, on Thursday July 22, 2010 at 12 noon.
The building is the scene where a 79 year-old woman was raped this past Monday July 18, 2010 as she came home from a trip. Senator Diaz brought the incident to public attention yesterday July 20th, and his remarks were published in today's edition of El Diario La Prensa. Senator Diaz had remarked, that "...not even children nor our senior citizens feel safe in this our City."

The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, Inc. is accepting applications for admission to its Enriched Housing Programs located in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Eligible applicants must be 65 years of age or older and functionally impaired but must not require full-time personal care or skilled nursing care.
