Friday Afternoon Memorial Planned for 6-year old Traffic Accident Victim Amar Diarrassouba

On February 28, 2014 at approximately 2:30pm, the students and staff of PS 155 will hold a brief remembrance in honor of 6-year old Amar Diarrassouba at the intersection of East 117th Street and First Avenue in East Harlem. Amar was killed there one year ago by a tractor trailer truck.

All are invited to attend to remember this bright, energetic young boy, as balloons are released in loving memory.

His parents, Sidiki and Meichata Diarrassouba dearly hope that the legislation introduced last year in the New York State Senate requiring guards on truck wheels, will be finally be approved.

Statement by Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz

For Immediate Release

Statement by Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz

“As the Ranking Member of the New York State Senate Committee on the Aging, it saddens me to learn that another senior citizen has been abused - this time, assaulted and raped - in a nursing home where the elderly are supposed to be protected.  On this occasion, the abused person happens to be a member of my faith community.  Since the family has reached out to me for guidance, I have prayed with them and for them.  This morning, I will be bringing them to meet with one of New York’s best civil rights attorneys to seek legal justice.”

MY FRIENDS ARE MY FRIENDS WITH THEIR VIRTUES AND THEIR DEFECTS

You should know that back in the old days, when I was growing up in a sector called La Cuchilla in a neighborhood called Hato Tejas in Bayamón Puerto Rico, when my mother Doña Anselma Martinez use to criticize my father Don Isaac Diaz Amezquita because of the kind of friends he had, my father responded to her by saying “My friends are my friends with their virtues and their faults”

That seems to be the same philosophy being used by NYC’s Mayor Bill DeBlasio regarding his friend the Bishop Orlando Findlayter.

(1) Since Mr. Carlos Velasquez has served not only as the Marketing Agent for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, but for many other parades in New York City too, what is going to happen to those other parades? Will there also be investigations to see if Carlos Velasquez mismanaged their money too?
