Re: First Legislative Hispanic Unity Conference

As everyone already knows, the Six New York State Hispanic Senators unanimously boycotted your Unidad Latina Legislative Conference that you organized in an attempt to garner the support of New York’s Hispanic Community.

I also hear that your so-called Unity Conference was not only boycotted by all Hispanic Senators, but by all of the elected Hispanic officials from New York State. Only some Republicans and Democrats who are not Hispanic attended.

Un Juez de la Corte Federal acuso al Alcalde Michael Bloomberg y su administración de discriminar contra los negros é hispanos.

El Juez de la Corte Federal de Brooklyn Nicholas Garaufis, dictamino que el Alcalde Michael Bloomberg y su Comisionado del Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de New York han ignorado lo que el Juez describe como una permisiva discriminación contra todos los que no sean blancos al ser empleados en el Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad.

Por esta razón el Juez Nicholas Garaufis, ordenó la instalación de un arbitro imparcial que supervice todo aspecto de contratos, empleos y promociones que se hagan en el Departamento de Bomberos.

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) greatly appreciates the Catholic Church’s support for his upcoming March for the Dignity of the Immigrants Rally scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in The Bronx. The March will begin on Westchester Avenue and Third Avenue and proceed to the steps of the Bronx County Courthouse on East 161st Street and the Grand Concourse.

Senator Reverend Diaz stated: “I deeply appreciate the support of the Catholic Church, the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn for our upcoming March for the Dignity of the Immigrants. New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) will join with community and religious leaders and organizations to hold the first Bronx County March for the Dignity of Immigrants on Sunday, October 2, 2011 beginning at 12:00 noon at Westchester Avenue and Third Avenue and proceed to the Bronx Supreme Court Building located on East 161st Street and the Grand Concourse. Thousands are expected to attend.

La Marcha denominada “Marcha por la Dignidad del Inmigrante” se llevará a cabo este próximo Domingo 2 de Octubre a las 12:00 pm, comenzando en las Avenidas Westchester y 3ra. En el Condado del Bronx, terminando en las escalinatas de la Corte Suprema en Grand Concourse y 161st Street.

Great Injustices

This past week, Troy Davis was executed under Georgia’s death penalty laws. He was convicted in 1989 of shooting Police Officer Mark MacPhail.

Many believe he was wrongfully convicted, and a plea for his clemency was heard from almost a million people worldwide with petitions from Hands Off Cain, Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, William Sessions, Amnesty International and at least 40 members of the US Congress.

A series of court appeals ended with a unanimous decision late Wednesday night by the US Supreme Court refusing to block the execution of the 42-year old Black man.

Esta semana, desde el martes 13 hasta el lunes 19, de este mes de Septiembre, estare viajando a la Republica Dominicana, como parte de una delegacion de Senadores Hispanos que iran a Santo Domingo para conducir una serie de talleres y conferencias juntos a representantes y funcionarios del gobierno Dominicano.

El estado de Nueva York tiene 62 Senadores, de los cuales 6 somos Hispanos. Estos sies Senadores componemos lo que se llama el Caucus Hispano Del Senado Newyorkino.
