Bronx, NY –

Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, Chairman of the New York State Senate Puerto Rican/Latino Caucus and the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, is extending an invitation to a demonstration of solidarity against the racial abuse of Mexicans and immigrants in Staten Island.

The Ministers and Legislators will meet on the corner of Castleton Avenue and Simonson Place, in Staten Island, on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11:30 a.m., where they will walk four blocks to the St. Phillips Baptist Church, located on 77 Bennett Street in Staten Island, to meet with Rev. Tony Baker, Sr.

Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz Condemns Killing of Unarmed Man

July 29 (Albany, NY) State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz. today condemned the killing of Defarra Gaymon,  in Branch Brook Park, Newark, New Jersey on July 21. Mr. Gaymon was unarmed when he was shot by an Essex County sheriff's detective.

“First, I want to send my condolences to Mr. Gaymon’s wife, four children and other family members on the sudden, tragic and unnecessary death of their loved-one,” said Senator Díaz.

“Second,” continued Senator Díaz, “I must, in no uncertain terms, condemn the killing of an innocent and unarmed man.”

The New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, Inc. is accepting applications for admission to its Enriched Housing Programs located in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Eligible applicants must be 65 years of age or older and functionally impaired but must not require full-time personal care or skilled nursing care. "We know from published reports that a House Committee offered a deal but Congressman Rangel refused to admit any wrongdoing. The only news coverage so far has been about Rangel saying more or less: "Bring it on, I am ready" - which is his right. Meanwhile, the New York Democratic Party and its Executive Director Charlie King remain silent.

New York State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. will join State Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr., Chair of the State Senate's Committee on Aging at a press conference to be held in front of 1400 Benson Street in The Bronx, on Thursday July 22, 2010 at 12 noon.

The building is the scene where a 79 year-old woman was raped this past Monday July 18, 2010 as she came home from a trip. Senator Diaz brought the incident to public attention yesterday July 20th, and his remarks were published in today's edition of El Diario La Prensa. Senator Diaz had remarked, that "...not even children nor our senior citizens feel safe in this our City."
