Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver: Stop Stalling

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) is insisting that Senate Bill S27B, which he has co-sponsored, no longer remain stalled in the Assembly. S27B  requires the installation of ignition interlock devices for all persons convicted of driving while intoxicated.

First, it is disappointing to hear Senate Conference President John Sampson saying that he is putting together an independent and impartial Senate Committee to investigate Senator Hiram Monserrate and at the same time sending a message to the committee members by stating “As a father and as a husband, I am not only angry, I am also pissed off”.  That statement alone may be interpreted as a direct order to the committee to “get Monserrate”.

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz Outraged by Governor Paterson’s Proposal to Cut Meals for Seniors

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz  (D-Bronx) is incensed by Governor Paterson’s outline of proposed State Budget cuts that will sever 20% of the Meals on Wheels Program.  Despite the thousands of seniors who remain on the Meals on Wheels waiting list, the Governor has recommended that even less seniors receive the one meal a day.

Senator Sabini did. Senator Monserrate was found guilty of trying to do good by forcing his girlfriend togoto the hospital for treatment.

Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz Thanks Governor Paterson for Quickly Signing Nixmary Brown Bill into Law

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-NY) announced his appreciation that Governor David Paterson has signed into law Senate Bill 6091, better known as the Nixmary Brown Bill.  Under this new law, if a person abuses a child and causes their death in a cruel and wanton manner, they will be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Sen. Diaz funds Mott Hall V SMART boards / Photo by Victor Chu

by DANIEL BEEKMAN/ Bronx Times Months ago, Senator Ruben Diaz had no idea what a SMART Board was. Today, Diaz is determined to put SMART Boards in classrooms throughout the 32nd Senate District: Soundview, Castle Hill, Hunts Point, Longwood, Parkchester and west Pelham Parkway.

Diaz visited the Mott Hall V middle school on Tuesday, September 22 to bless seven new SMART Boards, some of the first granted to School District 12. Diaz funded the SMART Boards as a member item via the Hispanic Federation.

“I plan to do this at every school in my district,” Diaz said.
