With the intention of celebrating the recent achievements of the New York State Senate, along with discussing further issues that remain in the agenda for 2009, and to reaffirm their friendship and unity, the Four Amigos, Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz, Senator Pedro Espada, Senator Carl Cruger and Senator Hiram Monserrate will be having lunch together on Monday, July 20th at 1pm at Joe’s Place located at 1841 Westchester Avenue in The Bronx.
As Chair of the New York State Senate Puerto Rican and Latino Caucus, and as a member of the Hispanic Community, I believe that it is an assault on many New Yorkers for Mayor Bloomberg to play upon the feelings and sentiments and emotions of our communities. These are scare tactics. Making believe that the sky is going to fall and that the walls of education are about to crumble is completely false.
As an precursor to the grand Dominican Parade in The Bronx, in recognition of the contributions of this community’s progress and development throughout New York City, Bronx Borough President, Rubén Díaz, Jr., Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, Sr., and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, will be celebrating “Una Noche de Abrazo Dominicano” in The Bronx.

“We said that by Thursday this thing will end, and as promised, the Four Amigos have brought an end to the stalemate that has paralyzed the New York State legislature for weeks. The Amigos have brought Senator Pedro Espada back to the Democratic Conference where we prevail in the majority.
State Senator Rev Ruben Diaz, President of the New York State Senate Puerto Rican/Latino Caucus, is demanding an apology from Senator Jeff Klein’s statement calling them “irrelevant” and “people like that”. By saying “people like that” does he mean Hispanic or what?
Senator Klein made this statement after four Senators, Ruben Diaz, Hiram Monserrate, Martin Malave Dilan and Carl Kruger walked out of a session called by their conference after adjourning Governor Paterson’s Extraordinary Session.
In an effort to break the stalemate in the New York State Senate, Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz said that he and Senator Carl Kruger, Senator Pedro Espada and Senator Hiram Monserrate will be joined by Senator Martin Malave-Dilan for breakfast today at 9am at the Crowne Plaza in Albany.
According to Senator Rev. Diaz, “We are encouraged that Senator Martin Malave-Dilan is the newest member of the Amigos, and we remain hopeful that this huge mess will soon be a thing of the past due to our efforts.”
In an effort to put an end to the torment in the New York State Senate, New York State Senator Ruben Diaz said that Senator Carl Kruger, Senator Pedro Espada Jr., Senator Hiram Monserrate and himself will be meeting again today to continue the negotiations between the four of them about how to put an end to this problem.
The four senators met yesterday for lunch, and will meet today for breakfast at 9am in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany, New York.
According to Senator Diaz, "I expect this problem to be resolved no later than the end of this week."
Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., the gift that keeps on giving as far as this coup-weary reporter is concerned, reiterated that plans to be in church in the Bronx on Sunday and all-but dared Gov. David Paterson to send the State Police in to drag him back to Albany.
Mayor Michael BloombergCity HallNew York, New York 10007
Dear Mayor Bloomberg:
It is a disgrace that at least two faith-based organizations within my Senatorial District, Lighthouse Multi-Services and the Thessalonia Worship Center, have been denied block party permits this year.
Today, our Governor missed the opportunity to claim victory for what the Senate Democrats achieved. Instead of rejoicing with the Senate Democrats in our victory for successfully passing legislation, Governor Paterson has chosen to attack Senate Democrats and criticize our efforts. He continues to erroneously claim that our votes were illegal. The Senate Democrats succeeded, and Governor Paterson missed this great opportunity to be part of our victory.

On Friday, June 26, 2009 at 8:30 AM, New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz’s office will join at a press conference with the family of Bianca Torres, a Samuel Gompers High School Senior student outside her school located at 455 Southern Boulevard in The Bronx.
