Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz To Hold Homeland Security Tour Of Lincoln Hospital

In response to federal cuts to New York, Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has scheduled a tour of Lincoln Hospital with the New York State’s Homeland Security Committee to take place on July 11, 2006 at 10:00AM. Senator Diaz Praises Legislature For Override Of Tax Credit Vetoes

Senator Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) today praised the Legislature for voting to override Governor Pataki’s veto of $1 billion in tax credits for New York’s working families. Unfortunately, the Governor has threatened to withhold the funds until constitutional issues are resolved. The override restores funds for the newly created Empire State Child Credit, and the School Tax Relief (STAR) Plus Rebate program.

State Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz To Be Honored By The NYS Division Of Housing And Community Renewal

On Friday, April 28, 2006 New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) will receive the "Champion of Housing Award" by the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal. The Awards Ceremony will take place in the Capitol Room of the Albany Crown Plaza Hotel from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

In a congratulatory letter to Senator Diaz, Commissioner Judith A. Calogero, wrote, "It gives me a great pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to receive the Division of Housing and Community Renewal's Annual Premio Campeones de la Vivienda (Champions of Housing Award)."

Affordable Housing Named For State Senator

New housing is coming to the South Bronx, and with the name that everybody knows. The New York City Housing Development Corporation (NYCHDC) this past week approved the use of $29 million of tax-exempt bond financing for the construction of two buildings in The Bronx that will contain more than 200 affordable apartments. The buildings, each 12 stories tall and containing 111 apartments, will be located at opposite end of the borough.

Housing Authority Approves Plan To Hike Fees, But Offers Discounts

         The New York City Housing Authority will go ahead with plans to increase fees for parking, appliances and replacing recklessly damaged household items, but will offer a 20% discount to most of its residents, the agency announced on Monday, April 10.         The discount – a concession from NYCHA that followed weeks of rallies and petitions from residents, tenant leaders and elected officials – will apply to all fees and be available to seniors, the disabled and more than 80% of r
