Commissioner Janette Sadik-KhanDepartment of Transportation55 Water Street, 9th FloorNew York, NY 10041Dear Commissioner Sadik-Khan:This letter is to request your immediate attention to an urgent matter that is affecting and damaging many small businesses due to construction and repairs that are being done at and near the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue in The Bronx.
You should know that Roberto Perez, who serves as Bill DeBlasio’s Chief Public Affairs Consultant just blasted an email boasting “De Blasio wins Latino Vote with 41%”.
Mr. Perez’s email boasting Bill De Blasio’s lead in the Democratic ballot for New York’s mayoral primary stated: “In exit polls conducted by Edison Research, De Blasio trounced his rivals among all main demographic groups. He held sway among men (44%) and women (42%), whites (46%), blacks (44%) and Hispanics (41%), all the city's main religious communities and all age groups.”
You should know that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are scheduled to end on November 1st. In the United States Congress, efforts are underway to cut food stamps - $40 billion in cuts over the next decade. One Member of Congress, Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.) who collected nearly $3.5 million in government farm subsidies from 1999-2012, defended his support for cutting food stamps by declaring: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
You should know that the most recent Quinnipiac University Poll, led by their Director, Maurice Carroll, is getting away with something no one else could have gotten away with in New York City in 2013.
You should know that Quinnipiac’s Maurice Carroll has been conducting periodic polling about New York City’s candidates by likely Democratic voters, and lo and behold, his most recent results include statistics for voters who are men, voters who are women, White voters, and Black voters.

As you may know, I am the Senate sponsor of Senate Bill 7399-A (2012), a piece of legislation that requires the State Department of Transportation and the State Thruway Authority to submit an annual report to the Governor and Legislature regarding the safety of the state's roadways and to reduce the risk of crashes.
Jose Alberto “El Canario, The Orquesta Hermanos Colon, and Angelo y su Conjunto Modelo are some of the bands that will participate on one of the stages in the Morrison Avenue Festival in the Bronx.
This festival, (where there will be free entertainment, games and music for the whole family including the children) is sponsored by Well Care, Affinity Health Plan and Be Live Hotels, and will be held on:
Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Morrison Avenue (between Westchester Avenue and Watson Avenue) starting at 12:00 p.m.

STATE SENATOR RUBEN DIAZ WILL JOIN THE BANGLADESH COMMUNITY IN A DEMONSTRATION AGAINST RACIAL ATTACKS AGAINST THEIR COMMUNITY
On Saturday, August 10th, at 6:30PM, Mr. Nurun Nabi, member of the Parkchester Jame Masjid congregation, was viciously attacked on his way home after a prayer service.
The incident took place on the corner of Ellis and Virginia Avenues near the mosque. The suspect attacked Mr. Nabi, stabbing him in the back without provocation or cause, apparently just disgusted by his appearance.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck - then it is probably a duck.
You should know that on August 9, 2013 Ken Lovett’s Daily News article, “Gov. Cuomo got $100,000 from developer, then signed law giving it big tax break” told how two days after Governor Andrew Cuomo’s campaign received donations of $100,000 from Extell Financial Services, the Governor signed a piece of legislation into law giving that developer – and four other developers a huge tax break. Huge!
DO THEY WHAT WANT ME TO VOTE FOR THIS CONNIVING WAY OF PERSECUTION?
You should know that during this past Senate session, Senator Simcha Felder and I, were criticized for being the only two Democratic Senators who voted against and caused the so called “Election Reform Legislation” to be defeated in the state.
You should know that there are many New Yorkers who are willing to drive out of the City and pay bridge and tunnel tolls in order to save money by shopping in New Jersey. They travel to Secaucus and to Bayonne to go to WalMart so they can save money on clothing and groceries, and buy fresh fruit and vegetables for their families at low prices.
