Two Bills Sponsored by Senator Ruben Diaz Pass in the Senate

Two significant pieces of legislation, Senate Bill 383 and Senate Bill 20, sponsored by New York State Senator Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) have passed today in the Senate.

S383 prohibits the use of lottery funds for any purpose other than education and prohibits co-mingling with funds for other purposes. This bill passed 56 Ayes, 0 Nays.

S20 establishes the crime of patronizing a prostitute in a school zone and including daycare facilities within the definition of a school zone. This bill passed 54 Ayes, 2 Nays.

Education for all our children!

You should know that with the legislative session concluding this month, Governor Cuomo and legislators can still accomplish much before we go home and campaign.

Among the positive things we can do in our remaining time in Albany is to pass into law the Education Investment Tax Credit bill to help thousands more families obtain private scholarships to attend pre-k through 12 schools, including private and parochial schools.

Senator Rubén Díaz’s Bill to Protect South Bronx Homeowners Passes the New York State Senate

Albany, NY – Today, legislation sponsored by New York State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz (Bronx County), passed the New York State Senate by a vote of 56-3.

The bill, S.6364, would prohibit crime that is committed in correctional facilities from being included in the crime statistics for the local police precincts and local police departments. It would also prohibit insurers from increasing their car and property insurance rates as a result of crimes committed in prisons.

These landlords are playing very dirty tricks, and this is ruining many people's lives and making our neighborhoods unstable.
