This memo is in response to Senator Dean Skelos’ invitation to attend the Unidad Latina Legislative Conference this Friday, October 21st at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday October 22nd at 9:00 a.m. in the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in Manhattan, that he will hold with the Hispanic Federation. I urge you NOT to attend this event and instead urge our communities and our leaders to boycott this conference.

Un Juez de la Corte Federal acuso al Alcalde Michael Bloomberg y su administración de discriminar contra los negros é hispanos.

El Juez de la Corte Federal de Brooklyn Nicholas Garaufis, dictamino que el Alcalde Michael Bloomberg y su Comisionado del Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de New York han ignorado lo que el Juez describe como una permisiva discriminación contra todos los que no sean blancos al ser empleados en el Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad.

Por esta razón el Juez Nicholas Garaufis, ordenó la instalación de un arbitro imparcial que supervice todo aspecto de contratos, empleos y promociones que se hagan en el Departamento de Bomberos.

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) greatly appreciates the Catholic Church’s support for his upcoming March for the Dignity of the Immigrants Rally scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in The Bronx. The March will begin on Westchester Avenue and Third Avenue and proceed to the steps of the Bronx County Courthouse on East 161st Street and the Grand Concourse.

This past week, Troy Davis was executed under Georgia’s death penalty laws. He was convicted in 1989 of shooting Police Officer Mark MacPhail.

Many believe he was wrongfully convicted, and a plea for his clemency was heard from almost a million people worldwide with petitions from Hands Off Cain, Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, William Sessions, Amnesty International and at least 40 members of the US Congress.

A series of court appeals ended with a unanimous decision late Wednesday night by the US Supreme Court refusing to block the execution of the 42-year old Black man.

“Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed my fifth sponsored piece of legislation into law (S.333/A.7007). Although it is easy enough for legislators to submit bills for consideration, it is not always easy for those of us who are not in the Majority to be effective legislators and get our bills passed and signed into law.

I celebrate that five of my sponsored bills have been approved in both the Senate and the Assembly, and signed into law by the Governor during the 2011 Session.

Senator Díaz Announces Three Bills Signed by Governor Cuomo

Bronx, NY - State Senator Rubén Díaz (SD 32-Bronx) announced that Governor Cuomo signed three of his bills into law yesterday.

“I am very grateful to Governor Cuomo for signing these bills into law,” stated Senator Díaz. “As a result, four of my bills have now become law during this year’s legislative session,” he continued.
