Senator Huntley: Joint Bidding Bill Signed Into Law

Legislation would make construction more efficient with time, funds

(Jamaica, NY) Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) celebrated the signing of her legislation (S. 6844) that would allow joint bidding on construction contracts. The new law authorizes New York City to include in a contract for public works relating to the Third Water Tunnel in Manhattan any work deemed necessary to accommodate energy, telecommunications and other private facilities or structures not owned by New York City which are within or adjacent to the construction area of the project.

Homeownership Preservation Town Hall Meeting

Southeast Queens is at the epicenter of the national mortgage crisis. Homeowners in the district, I represent continue to need access to information and quality services, at a time when the media and federal government’s attention are beginning to move away from the plight of homeowners. Our community is built around the institutions of church and family. We must draw on these strengths to build the supportive environment that homeowners at-risk of foreclosure will need now and in the future. The obstacles that many of them face prevents stable and long-term homeownership from occurring within our communities.
