Last month New York State Senator Shirley L. Huntley (Chairperson of Cities) help pass legislation that was signed by Governor Patterson necessary to approve the sale of the housing developments to the entity managed by New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). On April 1, 2010, Senator Huntley held a “Helping Residents Feel at Home” Town Hall Meeting at South Jamaica Houses to address their issues and concerns. This meeting conducted by Senator Shirley L.

On Wednesday, May 19, 2010 Senator Huntley held her second town hall meeting at Baisley Houses. Michael Kelly, NYCHA General Manager, Carolyn Jasper, NYCHA Director of Queens/Staten Island Management Department joined Senator Huntley to listen to the concerns of the residents. Several key concerns were mistreatment of tenants by management, lack of repairs, the poor condition of playground courts, and the lack of a community center. At the end of the meeting many of the residents felt their concerns would be acted upon.
