Senator Shirley L. Huntley wants to StopWorkplace Bullying

(D-Jamaica) On May 2, 2011 Senator Huntley spoke out against workplace bullying/ harassment at a press conference in Albany, New York.  Several guests and relatives talked about their loved ones who suffered through abuse and harassment at work, and in a few unfortunate cases, took their own lives.  

5/3/2011: Housing Works Lobby Day

Housing Works vistited Senator Huntley to discuss S. 2873: The Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GEND) sponsored by Senator Duane. This bill is the first step to ending the legal discrimination and social barriers faced by transgender people.

GENDA will:

Ensure equality in education, housing, healthcare and employment regardless of gender expression or identity
Enhance safety for all transgender people, especially the poor and homeless at high risk of getting HIV
Promote culturally competent medical care and delivery

Senator Huntley (D-Jamaica) and the New York State Senate passed legislation (S. 3188), which allows the New York State Court System to suspend a person’s driver’s license when an individual fails to pay a fine, complete predetermined community service or finish an alcohol awareness program.
