In the wake of the catastrophe that struck Haiti

In the wake of the catastrophe that struck near Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti, my thoughts and prayers go out to those who are searching for loved ones and family members as well as those who may not have survived this horrific event. I hope that for those who live in my district who may have family in Haiti find that their loved ones are safe and unharmed. The earthquake that struck the southern portion of Haiti on the evening of January 12, 2010 was one of the worse natural disasters ever to hit the island, and help and aid in all forms are desperately needed.

11/18/2009: Senator Huntley explains her vote on "Leandra's Law"

(S. 66008-Dilan/A. 40008-Weisenberg) The Child Passenger Protection Act was signed into law November 18, 2009 after both the New York State Senate and Assembly passed it unanimously during a Special Session. The bill also called Leandra’s Law, was named after Leandra Rosado who died at the age of 11 as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a drunk driver. Leandra’s father, Lenny Rosado was in attendance when the bill passed the Senate and when Governor Paterson officially signed the bill.
