Senator Steve Saland Secures State Grant For Dutchess Outreach

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced he has secured a $4,800 state grant for Dutchess Outreach, Inc. The grant will be used to purchase new tables and chairs for the Lunch Box Program which provides free mid-day meals Sunday through Friday for the unemployed, the homeless and those who do not earn a living wage. Evening meals are also served the last week of each month to help those families whose monthly food money is running low.

Sen. Saland Announces Local Assistance Grants From The NYS Council On The Arts

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced that local art and non-profit cultural organizations have been awarded grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). A total of $337,100 in grants were awarded to Columbia County organizations and $680,000 for Dutchess County organizations in the 2008 round of NYSCA Local Assistance Grants.

Governor Signs Saland Consumer Protection Bill

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the Governor has signed his bill, S.8517, which requires that anyone who sells or offers to sell a certified copy of a property deed to provide the purchaser, prior to the time of sale, with notice that certified copies of property deeds are available at the county clerk's office.

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced he has secured a $93,000 State grant for site preparation and the foundation envelope for the planned Roeliff Jansen Community Library in Copake. The proposed library will be the first public LEED certified green building in Columbia County. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design of green buildings. The public will be kept informed during each step of the building process in order to educate the community on green technology.

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the Governor has signed into law his bill, S.4630C, which directs that a biological parent be given an Adoption Information Registry Birth Parent Registration consent form at the time they surrender their child for adoption. The new law also authorizes the New York State Adoption Registry to accept Adoption Information Registry Birth Parent Registrations Forms at any time.

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the Senate has passed two bills designed to target the skyrocketing real property tax crisis. Senate bill 8736 creates a property tax cap. The legislation would place a cap on the growth of school property taxes at four percent or 120 percent of Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is less, providing significant relief for taxpayers.

Saland Bill To Protect Animals During Emergencies Signed By Governor

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the Governor has signed his bill, S7184A, which will establish animal response teams for use in emergencies and disasters affecting animals in New York State. This new law will create State and county teams to protect animals in the event of an emergency. The Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets will appoint and provide training to qualified volunteers for the teams which will then act to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters affecting animals in New York State.
