Saland Domestic Violence Bill Signed Into Law By The Governor

          Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the Governor has signed into law his bill, S. 2452, to strengthen domestic violence laws. The new law creates the crime of preventing a person from communicating a request for emergency assistance by intentionally disabling or removing communication sending equipment such as a telephone or teletypewriter device (TTY). The new crime is considered criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced he has secured $100,000 in the 2008-2009 State Budget for the SEED Program at Columbia-Greene Community College. The SEED Program has been providing skills training to Columbia County manufacturers and associated businesses since 1994. Thousands of employees and employers have benefited from the training received at the College through the SEED Program.

Senator Steve Saland Secures Funding For R.i.d.e. Program

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced he has secured $12,000 in the 2008-2009 State Budget for a senior transportation program operated through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Columbia County.

The R.I.D.E. program (Retired Individuals Driving Elderly) matches people ages 55 and over in need of transportation for medical appointments or treatment with volunteer drivers. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and receive insurance coverage. In 2007, volunteer drivers made 1,370 round trips and the client list now tops 900.
