Today, the Senate voted to expel Hiram Monserrate as a member of the New York State Senate.  It is unfortunate that the Senate was compelled to take this action as a result of Hiram Monserrate’s assault upon his girlfriend, Ms. Giraldo. SENATOR SALAND ANNOUNCES INNOVATIVE PLAN FOR JOB CREATION AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Senator Steve Saland (R,I, C) advanced today with his Senate Republican colleagues a comprehensive plan to create thousands of new jobs throughout the State.  The Job Creation and Retention Act would add no new spending to the state budget and would pay for itself through revenue generated by economic growth.

STATEMENT BY SENATOR STEVE SALAND ON GOVERNOR'S BUDGET PROPOSAL

As the State continues to experience cash flow problems due to the inflated budget adopted in 2009, the Governor set a different tone this year with his Executive Budget proposal urging the Legislature to follow a path of fiscal conservatism.  While we cannot turn back the clock to erase the damage done by those who voted for the 2009 State Budget, we can hope that our State’s leaders have learned from their past mistakes.

State Senator Stephen M. Saland (R-I-C Poughkeepsie), Ranking Member of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee and Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) have introduced legislation to ban the sale of drop-side cribs in New York State, which have caused the suffocation deaths of at least two New York infants, and 11 infant fatalities nationwide.

Over the next two years, beginning in April 2010, motorists will be forced to purchase new license plates when registering their vehicles, costing them $25. If you elect to keep your old plate numbers, expect to pay another $20.  The new plates are in addition to the increase in driver license and registration fees that took effect September 1, 2009.
