Senator Saland recently attended a ribbon cutting at the Millbrook Winery, as they celebrated the Hudson Valley Wine Country at the Bounty of the Hudson Wine Festival. Hudson Valley Wine Country was created as the branding initiative developed by the Dutchess & Shawangunk Wine Trails.

The Capital Region Economic Development Council unveiled its five-year strategic economic development plan for the Capital Region at a press conference at the Albany International Airport Monday. 

Proposals for transformative projects that would sustain and grow jobs by leveraging $11 in private sector investment for every $1 invested by the State are included within the plan.

Designation honors Saland’s commitment to agriculture

Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C Poughkeepsie) today announced that he has been named to the New York Farm Bureau’s “Circle of Friends” for the 2010 legislative session.  The award is based on a legislator’s voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture, bills sponsored by the legislator, as well as overall legislative support for agricultural issues.  Senator Saland has been named to the “Circle of Friends” every year since its inception in 1990.

SENATOR SALAND’S AGRICULTURE LEGISLATION BECOMES LAW

Requires Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets to consult with local government officials concerning local land use regulations, ordinances and laws

Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C Poughkeepsie) today announced that Governor Cuomo has signed his legislation that enables local government officials to request an opinion from the Department of Agriculture and Markets before a municipality considers adopting a local ordinance that may impact agriculture (S.3626).  This legislation does not require a municipality to contact the Department of Agriculture and Markets prior to enacting a local law, but merely gives the local government officials the option to access the Department’s expertise.
