Designation honors Saland’s commitment to agriculture
Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C Poughkeepsie) today announced that he has been named to the New York Farm Bureau’s “Circle of Friends” for the 2011 legislative session. The award is based on a legislator’s voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture, bills sponsored by the legislator, as well as overall legislative support for agricultural issues. Senator Saland has been named to the “Circle of Friends” every year since its inception in 1990.
The New York State Senate today passed the “Buy From the Backyard Act” to promote the purchase of food grown or produced locally. The bill (S.2468) requires state agencies with food contracts to buy at least 20 percent of their food from New York sources.
