SENATOR SALAND: NEW YORK STATE MUST EXTEND PROTECTIONS FOR MANDATORY REPORTING BILL ON CHILD ABUSE

Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C - Poughkeepsie), Chairman of the Senate Codes Committee and an author of  a number of child protection and domestic violence laws, announced that New York State must act on his legislation which requires suspected acts of abuse by a person in a position of authority to be reported immediately to law enforcement.

GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES $785 MILLION IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDING THROUGH REGIONAL COUNCILS

Mid-Hudson Region (which includes Dutchess County) will receive $67 million and the Capital Region (which includes Columbia County) will receive $62.7 million in competitive grant monies earmarked for economic development and job creation.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that $785 million has been awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, continuing the Governor's efforts to redesign the way state government works in order to drive economic growth and create jobs.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO CRACK DOWN ON COLLEGE HAZING

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to prevent the tragic injuries and deaths that can occur due to hazing at colleges and universities. The bill (S.1937) would help cut down on hazing by strengthening a college or university’s enforcement authority and increasing awareness of the consequences of hazing, underage drinking, and illegal drug use.
