TAX CUTS AND PROPERTY TAX CAP HIGHLIGHT NEW JANUARY 1ST LAWS

Middle class tax cuts that will reduce tax rates for millions of hardworking taxpayers and the two-percent property tax cap highlight new state laws that will go into effect on January 1, 2012.

The recently enacted tax cuts will reduce tax rates on middle class taxpayers to their lowest levels in more than 50 years (Chapter 55, L.2011). About 4.4 million middle class taxpayers will receive a total of $690 million in personal income tax relief.

Parents would be informed they have a right to withdraw consent of driving privileges

Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C - Poughkeepsie) today announced that the Senate has passed his legislation to require the court to notify parents that their child, who holds a junior driver’s license or a learner’s permit, has committed a traffic infraction. The bill also requires that the notice inform parents they have the right to withdraw their consent for their child to continue to hold a junior license or permit (S.1419).

$217,860,381 Investment to Repair 287 Miles of Roads and 23 Bridges

An additional and accelerated $217,860,381 investment for 38 NY Works projects that will repair 287 miles of roads and 23 bridges in the Hudson Valley and create thousands of jobs have been announced by the Governor's Office. For the transportation component of NY Works, the Department of Transportation (DOT) reviewed its Capital Program and identified those projects, which can be accelerated by utilizing either the conventional design-bid-build project delivery mechanism or the newly-enacted design-build project delivery method.

Weeks After Launch of NY Works Program, Expedited Bidding Process Ensures Construction Can Begin This Summer

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the first wave of NY Works pavement and bridge project contracts have been opened for bidding. The five contracts, consisting of 51 projects, represent more than $64 million in highway and bridge construction work in communities across the state.
