Saland Announces Availability Of Grants

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced the NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) has released the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 Grant Program application and workshop schedule for Federal Fiscal Year 2008. The Section 5310 Program provides not-for-profit organizations and municipalities assistance in the purchase of vehicles to meet the transportation needs of elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities. The program allows eligible organizations to purchase vehicles and be reimbursed 80% of the cost.

Statement By Senator Steve Saland Regarding The Proposed Closure Of The Hudson Correctional Facility

Department of Correctional Services (DOCS) Commissioner Brian Fischer appeared at a public forum in front of more than 400 Hudson Correctional Facility (HCF) employees, their families and other concerned citizens, at Columbia-Greene Community College on January 29, 2008, to discuss Governor Spitzer’s proposal to close the Hudson Correctional Facility. In response to a question, Commissioner Fischer stated that he would maintain the status quo to provide the Legislature with the opportunity to avoid the closure.

Saland Calls Upon The Governor To Rescind New Drivers License Policy

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today joined Assembly members Marc Molinaro (R,I,C-Tivoli) and Peter Lopez (R,I,C-Schoharie) and Columbia County Clerk Holly Tanner in denouncing the Governor’s change in policy to allow illegal immigrants to obtain NYS drivers licenses, despite Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 502(1) which requires a Social Security Number in order to obtain a license.
