SALAND SLAMS SALES TAX INCREASE

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C – Poughkeepsie) cautions all individuals and families that a sales tax hike will soon take effect.  On October 1st, New York State will begin collecting 4 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing $110 or less as part of the 2010-2011 state budget approved by the Democrats who now control state government.

SENATORS SALAND, HANNON, LITTLE AND O. JOHNSON ANNOUNCE LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE TO STOP BULLYING IN NYS

 Recent news stories have highlighted a number of vicious incidents of bullying in New York schools that show this type of peer abuse has become more pervasive and destructive. Last month, a West Islip teen hanged herself after being harassed by cyber-bullies who taunted her even in death. Another West Islip teenager was repeatedly cyber-bullied and beaten so badly by a classmate that she had to have reconstructive surgery on her face.

SALAND LEADS DEBATE ON REAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C – Poughkeepsie) led the debate on Real Property Tax relief on the Senate floor today.  Senator Saland offered up an amendment which would include STAR property tax rebates, a cap on the school tax levy, an optional freeze on school taxes for seniors,  mandate relief for schools and a circuit breaker which would offer tax breaks for those earning less than $250,000.
