The 2009 Education Committee Report documents the activities of the Committee for the 2009 legislative session. In order to create a cover for the report, Senator Oppenheimer sponsored an art contest for children in first through third grade, within her district. One winner was chosen for the cover and five runners-up were chosen to be included within the report. Senator Oppenheimer wishes to thank all of the children who entered the contest, as well as their art teachers. Congratulations to Gustavo Morales, of the Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle,

Acknowledging the difficult economic circumstances facing schools throughout the State, the Senate Education Committee, chaired by Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, today took decisive action to assist school districts in meeting their considerable fiscal challenges. The Committee acted favorably on several bills that are part of Senator Oppenheimer’s reform agenda to provide mandate relief and afford greater flexibility to school districts to manage expenses and achieve cost savings.
