Senator Suzi Oppenheimer named AIANYS Legislator of the Year

The American Institute of Architects New York State (AIANYS) has named Senator Suzi Oppenheimer as its “2010 Legislator of the Year”. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in advancing the legislative priorities of AIANYS. Senator Oppenheimer is receiving the award for her sponsorship of the Smart Growth Initiative, which was recently signed into law.

Oppenheimer and Galef Applaud Cuomo's Signing of Local Court Consolidation Bill

Today, Governor Cuomo signed a bill (Chapter 146) that allows for a new, more efficient court system to begin in Ossining. Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, have championed the bill, which permits the consolidation of the Town and Village of Ossining courts to serve the municipalities as one, while improving court efficiency and saving taxpayer dollars.

Oppenheimer Obtains Important Clarification on Applicability of State Building Codes on Flood Dmage Repairs

Responding to a conversation with Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) addressing her concerns, New York’s Secretary of State, Cesar Perales, has confirmed that his Department will not issue new interpretations of the NYS Residential Code (RCNYS or the Code), which local officials had feared would require onerous and expensive repairs to homes in flood prone areas.

On April 25, 2012, Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) and the Democratic Conference hosted a public forum on hydraulic fracturing, also known as “hydrofracking.”  A capacity crowd attended the forum, including environmental activists, legislators, economists, healthcare professionals and residents from throughout New York State.  Attendees at the forum discussed issues and potential health care concerns about hydrofracking, a form of natural gas drilling.
