Keeping our bridges and roadways safe, well-maintained

Last night, 13WHAM ran an excellent story on the state's Dedicated Highway and Bridge Fund. In a time when a third of Monroe County bridges are past their 50-year lifespan, only 22 cents on the dollar from this fund are being spent on capital projects.I appreciated the opportunity to share a potential solution in the segment. I am cosponsoring legislation that would realign this fund with its original, crucial purpose.

Messenger Post: New Yorkers deserve real reform

I recently shared my thoughts on the corruption issues plaguing Albany with the Messenger Post family of newspapers:

"I was elected to the New York State Senate last year, and I understand what the residents of Monroe and Ontario Counties expect of me. They trust that I will fight every day to reduce the burden of property taxes, revitalize our economy and encourage growth in emerging technologies to create the jobs of the future. This has been my focus since I took office, but when our Legislature is hit by scandal after scandal, and nearly nine in 10 New Yorkers think corruption is a major problem in our state, it’s difficult for government to work effectively."

In short, there are many accomplishments in the budget that I believe all New Yorkers should be proud of, but I do think there are several areas where the state legislature's work is far from over.

State Senator Ted O’Brien Named To Prominent List Of Environmental Leaders

 

The following press release was issued today by the New York League of Conservation Voters.

NEW YORK --- The New York League of Conservation Voters, which works to make environmental sustainability a top political and policy priority in New York State, has named Senator Ted O’Brien to a list of the state’s most promising new environmental leaders.

Senator O’Brien represents the 55th District, which borders Lake Ontario with Rochester and Irondequoit and stretches South past Bloomfield to Naples.
