ALBANY, N.Y. – With the Assembly’s passage of legislation to raise the minimum wage and index future increases to the rate of inflation, Senator Ted O’Brien has called for immediate action by the State Senate leadership.
“Over 1.1 million hard working New Yorkers are denied a living wage because our state’s minimum wage is too low. When given fair compensation for their work, these New Yorkers will help kick-start the economy and invest in their local communities,” Senator O’Brien said. “I look forward to voting in favor of raising the state’s minimum wage and I urge the Senate leadership to bring this legislation to the floor for a vote.”
ALBANY, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O’Brien voted in favor of the Senate’s budget resolution, strongly supporting its calls for millions of dollars of tax relief for families, financial support for new, growing businesses and restoration of funding cuts for programs benefiting people with developmental disabilities.

The budget included significant tax relief for middle class families and small businesses in addition to strategic investments to encourage job creation and economic development in the Monroe and Ontario County communities Senator O’Brien represents.
“The hardworking families and small businesses who live in the 55th District have struggled long enough under a crushing tax burden and stagnant job market." Senator O’Brien said. “The nearly $2 billion in tax cuts included in this year’s budget are a crucial first step toward unleashing a new era of economic growth in our region.”
ALBANY, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O'Brien stood with his Democratic conference colleagues to call for a moratorium on the issuance of certain natural gas drilling permits until a comprehensive health impact study has been completed. ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O’Brien stood alongside representatives of several tourism-related organizations and businesses, along with local elected officials, to tout the 55th Senate District’s growth as a tourism destination. He also highlighted state programs, newly introduced in this year’s budget, that seek to specifically promote, market and develop upstate tourism.
“As vibrant and exciting as the tourism industry is in Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region, we have only begun to unlock our full potential,” Senator O’Brien said. “These new initiatives, which will work in concert with our existing tourism groups and businesses, will be tremendous catalysts for growing our region’s tourism economy.”
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senator Ted O’Brien was today joined by representatives of local wineries and tourism organizations to call for increased state efforts to support the growing wine and wine tourism industries in the Finger Lakes region. The Senator noted that these industries provide essential jobs and economic growth for upstate New York.
“The wine tourism industry has an enormous impact on our state economy, providing almost $4 billion a year and bringing approximately 5 million visitors a year to our communities,” Senator O’Brien said. “State government must continue its efforts to expand this industry and help these innovative companies do what they do best, grow and put New Yorkers back to work.”
