This legislation, which passed 8-3 out of the committee, would allow local municipalities to grant real property tax deferment to seniors, making it easier for seniors to remain in their homes.

GIPSON & BARRETT AIM TO IMPROVE LYME CARE TO PATIENTS, PROTECT DOCTORS
ALBANY, NY – Senator Terry Gipson (D-Rhinebeck) and Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Hudson) have introduced the Lyme Disease Doctor Protection Bill. The legislation aims to protect doctors by allowing them to prescribe long-term antibiotic therapy to a person with symptoms of chronic Lyme disease. It would disallow the medical board to deny, revoke, or suspend the license of a physician or discipline any physician who prescribes, administers, or dispenses long-term antibiotic therapy for therapeutic purposes for a patient clinically diagnosed with Lyme disease.

ALBANY, NY – Hudson Valley Senator Terry Gipson today issued the following statement concerning the arrest and charges against New York State Senator John Sampson.
“Once again, I’m very troubled by the allegations against Senator John Sampson. This is another unfortunate example of why there is an urgent need for comprehensive campaign finance and ethics reform in New York.
Yesterday I stood with Assemblyman Frank Skartados to introduce ‘Rosie’s Law,’ which is named after Rosie, the first judicially approved courtroom dog in New York State. With Rosie’s help, a 15-year-old girl (known in the case as “Jessica”) from Dutchess County was able to provide testimony against her abuser. The bill would permit judges the discretion to allow certain witnesses to be accompanied by a facility dog when providing testimony.

The proposed legislation would require health insurers and workers’ compensation to provide coverage for long-term medical care for Lyme disease and other tick-borne pathogens. It also establishes the tick-borne illness, research, and education fund.
