Honorable Michael R. BloombergMayor of the City of New YorkCity HallNew York, NY 10007
Dear Mayor Bloomberg:
As a New York State Senator representing more than 1,800 New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) tenants, I was deeply concerned to hear that looming budget shortfalls would force the agency to eliminate all funding for "non-core services," as NYCHA chairman Tino Hernandez suggested at a May 29, 2008 New York City Council Housing and Buildings Committee hearing.

New York State Senator Tom Duane has invited the company to perform the autobiographical work, which sheds light on the stories of incarcerated individuals and their journeys beyond. The Castle will be presented at 6:00 PM in the Empire State Plaza Building for a private performance to state legislators.
I applaud Governor David Paterson's directive to New York State agencies to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions.
Governor Paterson's directive is not only right and fair, but it is also consistent with recent New York State appellate and Supreme Court rulings that marriages of same-sex couples entered into outside of New York must be recognized in this State.

The four Rent Guidelines Boards would be restructured and renamed simply "Rent Boards," discarding the euphemism "guidelines."
Senator Duane and Assemblymember Deborah Glick introduced legislation (S2890/A5473) earlier this month that would cap at 30% of household income the amount that HASA clients living in supportive housing could pay towards shelter costs. That legislation, while still important, is no longer urgent in light of this executive action by the Spitzer administration.
Dear Commissioner Frieden, Chancellor Klein, and President Greenberger: Given the April 7, 2008 Daily News story revealing that low levels of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were detected in the first-floor cafeteria of P.S. 199, located in my State Senate District, I appreciate that an emergency meeting was called at the school that night.
