Thomas K. Duane's Reports

Important Phone Numbers for 29th NYS Senate District Residents

New York’s 29th State Senate District lies at the heart of the world’s most exciting and vibrant city. And those of us who live here know that day-to-day challenges come along with that excitement.

Often, in order to find out our rights, access available services or fi le a complaint, we must contact public agencies and/or community organizations. While many resources are now available online, even in this Internet age many questions are best answered or most easily explained by picking up the phone and speaking to a person with knowledge and sensitivity. Yet identifying which agency has jurisdiction or expertise and even finding a correct phone number can be a time consuming and diffi cult task.

Yes, You Can Go To College!

Dear Friend,

In today's economy, higher education and life-long learning have become essential for success. However, the costs of higher education have become unbearable for some, and burdensome for all. According to a recently released study by the U.S. Department of Education, paying for college is a greater burden for New Yorkers than residents of any other state.

In fighting on behalf of tenants, I have long argued that under New York State law, landlords who receive New York City tax abatements for renovations must extend rent stabilization protections to their tenants during the abatement period.

On July 9, the month-long stalemate in the New York State Senate ended. The June 8th coup was a painful and disturbing moment in the history of the Senate and I am committed to working with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to restore to the Senate decorum, dignity, fairness, and bipartisan collegiality, as well as hard work with real results.
