Statement of Senator Duane Re: New York State Court of Appeals Ruling in Roberts v. Tishman Speyer Properties

"In fighting on behalf of tenants, I have long argued that under New York State law, landlords who receive New York City tax abatements for renovations must extend rent stabilization protections to their tenants during the abatement period.I am gratified that the New York State Court of Appeals, in upholding the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division ruling in Roberts v. Tishman Speyer Properties, L.P., has affirmed it.

Praising the Agreement on the Final Re-zoning for Redevelopment of Hudson Yards

On Monday, December 21st, Senator Duane spoke at a press conference announcing the final re-zoning for redevelopment of the Hudson Yards area.  The agreement on the Western Rail Yard sets the stage for a combined 12 million square feet of mixed-use development, including 1,300 affordable housing units in the Hudson Yards area, and will create thousands of permanent and construction jobs.

Aligns NYC HIV/AIDS Service Administration with Other Rental Assistance Programs

(Albany, NY)-On Tuesday the New York State Senate decisively passed legislation, prime sponsored by Senator Thomas K. Duane, that would cap at 30 percent of income the rent contribution of people receiving housing assistance from the New York City HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA).
