My name is Thomas K. Duane and I represent New York State's 29th Senate District, which includes a section of the East Village that the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) has included in the proposed East Village/Lower East Side rezoning plan being discussed today.

As you know, the current study area for the rezoning plan covers approximately 114 blocks generally bounded by East 13th Street to the north, Grand Street to the south, Avenue D to the east and Second Avenue to the west, and is located within Manhattan Community District 3.

My name is Thomas K. Duane and I represent New York State's 29th Senatorial District, which includes the Upper West Side, Hell’s Kitchen, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, the East Side, Stuyvesant Town, Peter Cooper Village and Waterside Plaza. This mixed-income district is composed largely of tenants, thousands of them rent-stabilized, many of whom already allocate too high a percentage of their incomes to pay their rent. Senators Duane And Krueger Call For Moratorium On Mitchell-lama And Affordable Housing Buyouts

With New York State losing affordable housing at an alarming rate, State Senators Thomas K. Duane (D, WFP-Manhattan) and Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) today called for immediate passage of their legislation, S6120, which would mandate a moratorium on Mitchell-Lama and other affordable housing buyouts, as well as create a temporary state commission to evaluate the loss of existing units in these affordable housing programs.

Duane Joins Aids, Senior Organizations In Push For Hiv Education Initiative Geared Towards Older Adults

New York State Senator Tom Duane joined the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA), New York City Councilmember Maria del Carmen Arroyo, the Council of Senior Centers and Services (CSCS), the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), and other organizations concerned with the growing number of people over 50 infected with HIV in in calling on the City Council to fund a comprehensive HIV prevention and health literacy education initiative focused on the older adult population in New York.

Senator Duane Applauds General Theological Seminary’s New Plan For Sherrill Hall Site; Pledges To Work With Seminary In Future

Senator Thomas K. Duane (D-WFP Manhattan) today applauded the General Theological Seminary’s decision to replace its antiquated Sherrill Hall on Ninth Avenue between West 20th and 21st Street with an appropriately-scaled building which conforms to the height and bulk restrictions set forth in the enacted Chelsea 197-a Plan. Simultaneously, the Seminary is abandoning its previous preservation plan, which included a fifteen-story tower on that site.

I am New York State Senator Thomas K. Duane and I represent the area just to the south of the former Con Edison Waterside properties, including Waterside Plaza and Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town, and the part of the Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) Drive bordering the sites. I am pleased that the East River Realty Corporation (ERRC) has made changes to its original development plan for the former Con Edison First Avenue Properties to provide permanent, affordable housing and a space on the site for a public school.
