The magazine writes, "Picking the locations in our fifth annual Best Town Ever contest wasn't easy. We looked for places with great access to trails and public lands, thriving restaurants and neighborhoods, and of course, a good beer scene — all while excluding the winners and runners-up from the past three years to make room for hidden gems, underdogs and towns on the rise."

Albany, N.Y., May 5—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats), Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) will help welcome senior citizen volunteers from Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties to the State Capitol on Tuesday as part of the 2015 Senior Citizens Day Celebration sponsored by the New York State Office for the Aging.

One of our fallen local heroes, United States Army Specialist Ryan P. Jayne of Corning, will be honored on Saturday, May 2nd, during a Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall ceremony in Darien, Illinois.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Spc. Jayne, and his family and friends.

State legislators hosting 'Sip and Sample' events in Albany during the month of May ~ Events scheduled for Monday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 27 ~ Read more

Albany, N.Y., May 4—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) and other state legislators are hosting two New York Wine Industry Association (NYWIA) “Sip and Sample” events during the month of May in Albany featuring wineries, cheese producers and other food manufacturers from the Finger Lakes, and Central and Western New York.

The lawmakers said the events are aimed at complementing ongoing efforts to promote, showcase and support products grown and made in New York State.

Nepal Earthquake Relief Efforts

Legislature approves 'equal pay for equal work' legislation

Late yesterday at the Capitol, the New York State Assembly unanimously approved "equal pay for equal work" legislation that was the first order of business taken up and approved by the state Senate in January at the start of the 2015 legislative session. 

The measure will now be delivered to Governor Andrew Cuomo to be signed into law.

Finger Lakes Land Trust announces funding for regional tourism and conservation projects ~ O'Mara highlights importance of Environmental Protection Fund

Ithaca, N.Y., April 23–The Finger Lakes Land Trust announced today that it has been awarded a total of $51,000 for regional conservation and tourism projects through the New York State Conservation Partnership Program.

"One of the true highlights of the recently enacted state budget is that we strengthened the Environmental Protection Fund, and this is exactly why," said State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee.
