Governor approves key plank of Senate's 'Grown in New York' plan for farmers: property tax relief

Albany, N.Y.—Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) to place a two-percent cap on annual agricultural land assessment increases and deliver long-awaited and badly needed property tax relief to state farmers, has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The signing was announced Tuesday at the Capitol.

O'Mara: State should immediately waive fee for veteran designation on driver licenses

Albany, N.Y., October 18—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) today urged New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to take immediate steps to direct the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to waive a state fee for veterans who want a newly created Veterans ID placed on their state driver license before the expiration date of their current license.

O'Mara said that if the governor won’t or can’t do it on his own, he’ll work with his Senate and Assembly colleagues to enact legislation waiving the fee.

O'Mara applauds signing of new law to encourage growth of farm cideries

Albany, N.Y.—Legislation co-sponsored this year by State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to take steps to encourage the expansion of New York’s growing hard cider industry has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.  

O'Mara applauded the signing, which was announced earlier today at the Capitol.

'Wear Purple Day' on October 16th highlights state's annual 'Shine the Light' campaign to prevent domestic violence ~ Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, Inc. holding awareness walk in downtown Penn Yan on Saturday, October 19th

Roadside farm stands can add wine sales under new law co-sponsored by Senator O'Mara

YATES COUNTY  —  Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently signed a new law allowing locally produced wine to be sold at roadside farm markets as part of the state’s effort to better market and promote New York wine.

O'Mara, Palmesano, Reed honor local World War II veteran and the memorial he helped create

State Senator Tom O'Mara, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and Congressman Tom Reed welcomed the opportunity recently to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Steuben County Veterans Memorial in Bath, and to honor the area veteran whose efforts were instrumental to the memorial's construction: World War II Veteran Warren Thompson.

O'Mara applauds new law restoring funding for the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities: 'We never gave up'

Albany, N.Y., September 30—Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to restore a $90-million cut in funding to the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) that was included in this year’s state budget earlier this year, has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The governor announced the signing over the weekend.

Beaver Dams, N.Y., September 26—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) will attend this morning's ceremony for the latest graduating class from the Monterey Shock Incarceration program.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Beaver Dams, Schuyler County (2150 Evergreen Hill Road).
