Corning, N.Y., October 9— On the same day that the Washington D.C.-based Tax Foundation called New York State’s business tax climate the worst in the nation, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and members of the State Senate Majority Coalition held a public hearing at Corning Community College and heard the same message from local and statewide business leaders and economic development officials: New York State is overtaxed, overregulated and too costly.

O'Mara, Palmesano, Reed honor local World War II veteran and the memorial he helped create

State Senator Tom O'Mara, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and Congressman Tom Reed welcomed the opportunity recently to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Steuben County Veterans Memorial in Bath, and to honor the area veteran whose efforts were instrumental to the memorial's construction: World War II Veteran Warren Thompson.

O'Mara applauds new law restoring funding for the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities: 'We never gave up'

Albany, N.Y., September 30—Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to restore a $90-million cut in funding to the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) that was included in this year’s state budget earlier this year, has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The governor announced the signing over the weekend.

'Camp Monterey holds graduation: Lawmakers continue effort to keep shock program open'

O'Mara, Palmesano will attend this morning's ceremony for the latest Monterey Shock Incarceration graduating class, continue to urge public support to 'Keep Monterey Open!'

Beaver Dams, N.Y., September 26—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) will attend this morning's ceremony for the latest graduating class from the Monterey Shock Incarceration program.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Beaver Dams, Schuyler County (2150 Evergreen Hill Road).

'Saving Monterey Shock Rally' draws supporters to Watkins Glen

A "Saving Monterey Shock Rally!" drew supporters of the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility to Watkins Glen yesterday to protest a Cuomo administration plan to close the facility by next year.

Community gathers to honor fallen local soldier at dedication of 'Christopher J. Scott Memorial Highway'

Dundee, N.Y., September 8—Earlier this year, in June, the New York State Legislature approved legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) to designate a portion of State Route 14A between the town of Reading in Schuyler County and the village of Dundee in Yates County as the “Christopher J. Scott Memorial Highway.”

The designation honors the memory and pays tribute to the life and service of United States Army Specialist Christopher J. Scott, a Dundee High School graduate, who was killed on September 3, 2011 while serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Reminder: Deadline for applying for next State Police civil service exam is September 8th

The deadline for applying for the next state civil service exam to become a New York State Trooper- which won't be offered again for at least another four years -- is Sunday, September 8, 2013.  The test will take place at several locations statewide in October.
