O'Mara: Senate moving forward with 'Public Assistance Integrity Act' to protect taxpayers from abuse of welfare benefits

Albany, N.Y., January 31—The State Senate is moving forward with legislation co-sponsored by State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to enact the “Public Assistance Integrity Act” to prohibit public assistance recipients from using their state-funded electronic benefit transfer (EBT) debit cards to purchase tobacco, alcoholic beverages or lottery tickets, or to use their EBT cards to make withdrawals from ATMs at liquor stores, casinos or strip clubs.

O'Mara, Palmesano holding a community meeting later today at the Erwin Town Hall

Corning, N.Y., January 30—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning) today reminded area residents that they will hold a community meeting later today at the Erwin Town Hall (310 Town Center Road, Painted Post).

Today's meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

O'Mara, Palmesano holding community meetings in Steuben County next week

Corning, N.Y., January 24—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning) will hold a series of community meetings across the region throughout 2014, beginning next week with public forums in the Steuben County towns of Howard and Erwin.

The local lawmakers said that the meetings are informal and open to the public.  They’re aimed at giving local residents an opportunity to directly share their concerns, opinions and suggestions for better government.

O'Mara joins effort to enact 'Jobs for Heroes' to assist disabled vets, build on last year's Hire-a-Vet tax credit

Albany, N.Y., January 15— Building on last year’s creation of a Hire-a-Vet tax credit to encourage businesses in New York State to hire returning veterans, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) today joined a growing legislative effort this year to enact the “NY Jobs for Heroes Program” to assist New York State businesses owned by service-connected disabled veterans.

O'Mara joins call for massive effort to eliminate government red tape stifling job growth, says overregulation keeps upstate economy 'going nowhere'

Albany, N.Y., January 13—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) today joined his colleagues in the Senate Majority Coalition to release a comprehensive regulatory reform report that they hope will help set the stage for one of New York’s largest-ever regulatory reform efforts this year.

The Senate report identifies more than 2,000 specific rules, regulations and practices that put New York’s businesses and manufacturers, large and small, at a competitive disadvantage.

O'Mara welcomes new round of state support for regional economic development

Albany, N.Y., December 11—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) welcomed today’s announcement that the Southern Tier region will be awarded $81.9 million and the Finger Lakes region $59.8 million under the third round of funding through the state’s Regional Economic Development Councils initiative.

O'Mara noted that the Southern Tier was recognized as a “Top Performer” in this year’s competition.
