The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
According to the DEA, this is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.
Horseheads, N.Y.— State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) will host an electronics recycling event, in partnership with Time Warner Cable and Sunnking Electronics Recycling, on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grand Central Plaza, 1020 Center Street in Horseheads.
Area residents can drop off old or unused electronics at no charge. There is no limit on the number of items that can be dropped off.
Corning, N.Y., October 9—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and members of the Senate Majority Coalition will hold a public hearing in Corning today to hear from local and statewide business leaders and economic development officials on which state rules, regulations and mandates most impact their industries and communities, and should be eliminated.
The hearing is being held at Corning Community College (Triangle Lounge of the Commons Building) beginning at Noon.
Elmira, N.Y., October 8—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) today reminded area veterans and veterans’ families that a new law he co-sponsored last year (S.6799, Chapter 487 of the Laws of 2012) recently took effect and, as a result, New York State veterans now have the option of having their status as a veteran indicated on their New York State driver license, permit or non-driver identification card.
The newly effective law directs the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to make the veteran’s status available to all honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces who apply for the designation on a DMV-issued photo document.

Elmira, N.Y., September 5—In late July the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled a plan to shut down the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County next year, and now State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), State Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) and State Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) are encouraging area residents to sign an online “Keep Monterey Open!” petition that’s been launched to help rally public support and convince the administration to keep the Monterey facility open.

Albany, N.Y., July 9—Legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) to designate a portion of State Route 14A between the town of Reading in Schuyler County and the village of Dundee in Yates County as the “Christopher J. Scott Memorial Highway,” has been signed into law by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.
Cuomo approved the measure early last week, on Wednesday, July 3, to coincide with the following day’s Fourth of July observance. He approved several similar pieces of legislation honoring three other fallen soldiers across New York.
