Albany, N.Y., June 10—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano today paid tribute at the State Capitol to Sriram Hathwar of Painted Post, this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee co-champion.
O’Mara and Palmesano sponsored a Joint Legislative Resolution honoring Hathwar’s achievement, which was presented to all of the members of the State Legislature during today’s Senate and Assembly sessions. Hathwar was recognized in person by each legislative house.

Albany, N.Y., March 24 — State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) today said that the findings of a new study commissioned by two of the state’s leading manufacturing advocates – the Manufacturers Alliance of New York State and the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) – reveal that while nearly 70% of the state’s manufacturing executives remain optimistic about staying in business in the state, 60% of them also believe that the state’s business climate is headed in the wrong direction.
Nearly half (46%) of the business leaders polled as part of the new study pointed to high taxes as the greatest competitive obstacle they face.

The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ithaca High School, 1401 N. Cayuga Street in Ithaca. Area residents can drop off old or unused electronics at no charge. There is no limit on the number of items that can be dropped off.
Elmira, N.Y., October 28—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) hosted a public hearing in Elmira on October 28th on the future of the Elmira Psychiatric Center (Elmira PC) and the Greater Binghamton Health Center, and the need for an ongoing “Southern Tier-based Center of Excellence” within New York State’s system of mental health.
Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Bill Nojay and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano took the opportunity last Saturday (July 27) in Hornell, on the main court of the Gus Macker Tournament, to honor Zack Bacon, one of the region's outstanding high school athletes.
A recent graduate of Hornell High School who'll be attending and playing football at Alfred University this fall, as a high school senior Bacon was a two-time state champion in football and wrestling -- the first such two-time champion in Hornell's history.
