Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Nojay and Assemblyman Palmesano honor Zack Bacon of Hornell

Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Bill Nojay and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano took the opportunity last Saturday (July 27) in Hornell, on the main court of the Gus Macker Tournament, to honor Zack Bacon, one of the region's outstanding high school athletes.

A recent graduate of Hornell High School who'll be attending and playing football at Alfred University this fall, as a high school senior Bacon was a two-time state champion in football and wrestling -- the first such two-time champion in Hornell's history.

Senator O'Mara co-sponsors Senate action to end welfare fraud

Albany, N.Y., June 21—The New York State Senate today approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), the “Public Assistance Integrity Act,” to prohibit public assistance recipients from using their cash assistance benefit to purchase tobacco, alcoholic beverages or lottery tickets, and to combat other abuses of the public welfare system.

Senator O'Mara pays tribute to Penn Yan Academy senior James Burdette

 

From the floor of the New York State Senate Chamber on Monday, June 10, 2013, Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats) paid a tribute to Penn Yan Academy senior James Burdette as a 2013 recipient of a college scholarship from the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators.

Burdette, who will attend the University at Albany in the fall, was accompanied to the Capitol by members of his family, including his mother, Martha, brother, David, and aunt, Mary Ellen.

Senator O'Mara calls for stronger penalties to combat meth labs

Albany, N.Y., April 23—While police and firefighters in the city of Elmira today were on the scene of a suspected meth lab, the New York State Senate approved, by a strong bipartisan vote of  57 to 5, legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to further outlaw the operation of clandestine methamphetamine labs by increasing the criminal penalties for the possession of meth manufacturing material and the unlawful manufacture of meth, implementing a series of increasingly severe felony offenses.

Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano lead call to boost state support for locals roads and bridges

Albany, N.Y., March 6—With final negotiations over the 2013-14 New York State budget kicking into high gear over the next two weeks, a group of state legislators, led by Senator Tom O'Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C, Corning), today joined county and town highway superintendents and other local leaders from across New York to call for increased state support for local roads and bridges.

Highway superintendents from throughout the state have been in Albany this week as part of their "2013 Grassroots Advocacy Campaign for Local Roads & Bridges."

Albany, N.Y.—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats)  welcomed John Moeller of Penn Yan and William “Bill” Wormuth, Sr. of Penn Yan to the State Capitol on May 8th as part of a Senior Citizens’ Day 2012 event in Albany sponsored by the New York State Office for the Aging.

Senator O'Mara reacts to Governor Cuomo's 2012-2013 proposed state budget

Albany, N.Y., January 17—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) today welcomed  Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed 2012-2013 state budget for proposing additional steps toward eliminating the local share of Medicaid costs.  But O’Mara plans to keep pushing for this year’s final budget to do even more to eliminate the local costs associated with the state’s $53-billion-plus Medicaid program.
