Senator O'Mara statement on the Cuomo administration plan to close the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County

 

Albany, N.Y., July 26— State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) released the following statement on today’s announcement by the Cuomo administration that it will close the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County and three other state correctional facilities over the next 12 months: 

"It's more tough news for a region already reeling from devastating job losses and coming on the heels of the Cuomo administration’s recent announcement that it plans to shut down inpatient services at the Elmira Psychiatric Center.

O'Mara criticizes hiring of 'new bureaucracy' at state Department of Corrections

 

Albany, N.Y., August 1—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) criticized the Cuomo administration for hiring nearly two dozen new “assistant deputy superintendents” within the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) at the same time that the administration has announced plans to shut down another four upstate correctional facilities, including the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County.

Local, state and federal leaders rallying support for the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility

The effort's underway to save the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County which, it was recently announced by the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been targeted for closure next year. 

Senator O'Mara has expressed his strong opposition to the proposed closing.

O'Mara, Palmesano will attend this morning's ceremony for the latest Monterey Shock Incarceration graduating class, continue to urge public support to 'Keep Monterey Open!'

Beaver Dams, N.Y., September 26—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) will attend this morning's ceremony for the latest graduating class from the Monterey Shock Incarceration program.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Beaver Dams, Schuyler County (2150 Evergreen Hill Road).

Supporters hold 'Saving Monterey Shock Rally' in Elmira, continue to urge Cuomo administration to change course

Elmira, N.Y.-- More than 200 supporters of keeping open the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility turned out on Saturday for a "Saving Monterey Shock Rally" at the National Soaring Museum.

In late July the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled a plan to shut down the Monterey facility in Schuyler County next year.

Elmira Jackals, Senator O'Mara urge supporters 'to turn First Arena orange' on Saturday night in support of Monterey Shock

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals have announced that they will be holding the largest public rally to date in support of saving the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County. The rally will take place at their home game this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at First Arena, against the Kalamazoo Wings.

Cuomo administration calls today's Monterey Shock graduation ceremony the last, but O'Mara says local effort to save facility will continue (Updated, January 24)

Elmira, N.Y., January 23—Although the Cuomo administration continues to mark today’s graduation ceremony at the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility as the last one before the administration shuts down  the facility later this year, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) said today that the local, grassroots effort to convince the governor to reverse the decision will continue.

Senator O'Mara questions the Cuomo administration on the future of Monterey Shock

Albany, N.Y., February 5—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), continuing the local grassroots effort to convince the Cuomo administration to reverse its decision to close the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility later this year, today directly questioned the state’s corrections commissioner on the decision at a legislative budget hearing in Albany.
