Elmira, N.Y., February 19—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) is giving local residents the chance to share their opinions on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposal to have New York State provide free college courses to state prison inmates. 

"Governor Cuomo’s proposal to provide a state taxpayer-funded college education to prison inmates seems to be striking a raw nerve among many taxpayers around the region, and statewide,” said O’Mara.  “I’m glad to offer this opportunity for local residents to share their opinions on the governor’s plan.”

Elmira, N.Y., February 18—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), Assemblyman Chris Friend (R-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today rejected Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to provide a free college education to state prisoners and again urged the Cuomo administration to reverse its decision to close the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County later this year.

O'Mara to welcome local Monterey Shock supporters at Albany protest rally today

Elmira, N.Y., March 10—State Senator Tom O’Mara will meet local Monterey Shock supporters traveling by bus from the Southern Tier to Albany today for a Capitol rally to protest Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to shut down several correctional facilities this year, including the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County.

Senator O'Mara addresses local Monterey Shock supporters at the March 11th protest rally in Albany

Albany, N.Y., March 11—State Senator Tom O'Mara addressed local supporters of the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility at a public rally in Albany today and said that the Senate Majority Coalition, in its one-house budget resolution scheduled to be unveiled and acted on this week, will reject Governor Andrew Cuomo's plan to close the facility.

O'Mara issues reminder on correction officer recruitment ~ Deadline for submitting application is November 25 ~ Find out more

Elmira, N.Y., November 21—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) reminded area residents today that the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is currently undertaking a statewide correction officer recruitment effort.

A state Civil Service examination to fill new positions has been scheduled for January 10, 2015.  

Anyone interested in taking the exam must file an application by next Tuesday, November 25, 2014.
