Albany, N.Y., June 17—The New York State Legislature approved today landmark health care legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) that would  require expanded health insurance coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.

Senate unanimously approves Lyme disease awareness and prevention legislation co-sponsored by O'Mara, who says work of Senate task force will continue (UPDATED following Senate approval at 3:00 p.m.)

Albany, N.Y., June 16—The New York State Senate today unanimously approved two pieces of legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) to bolster the state’s efforts to raise public awareness on the prevention of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

O’Mara, who serves as a member of the Senate Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases, said that the legislation is being approved as regional concerns about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases have dramatically increased over the past few years.

'Lyme Disease takes a toll on Yates County, Upstate NY' ~ Yates County Public Health urges extra precautions ~ Read more on the work of the Senate Task Force on Lyme Disease

The Chronicle-Express reports 14 confirmed cases of Lyme disease in Yates County last month.

According to the report, Yates County Public Health is advising area residents to take extra precautions to prevent exposure to ticks.
