Legislature reaches key budget agreement on funding for local roads and bridges

Albany, N.Y., March 26—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) said today that the Legislature’s joint budget conference committee on transportation has reached a key agreement that will maintain New York’s commitment to funding for local roads and bridges in the 2012-2013 state budget.

The CHIPS program provides the bulk of state aid to localities for the maintenance and improvement of local roads and bridges.

New state budget will ensure state DOT regional office in Hornell stays open

Albany, N.Y., March 26—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) said today that the final 2012-2013 New York State budget will keep all 11 of the state Department of Transportation’s (DOT) regional offices operating, including the Region 6 office in Hornell.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2012-2013 executive budget proposal, which he released in January, called for reducing the number of DOT regional offices from 11 to 6.

Albany, N.Y., March 6—With final negotiations over the 2013-14 New York State budget kicking into high gear over the next two weeks, a group of state legislators, led by Senator Tom O'Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C, Corning), today joined county and town highway superintendents and other local leaders from across New York to call for increased state support for local roads and bridges.

Highway superintendents from throughout the state have been in Albany this week as part of their "2013 Grassroots Advocacy Campaign for Local Roads & Bridges."

Albany, N.Y., March 21—Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C, Corning), who in early March joined county and town highway superintendents and other local leaders from across New York to call for increased state support for local roads and bridges, applauded today’s announcement that the final 2013-14 state budget will include a $75 million increase in funding for the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

CHIPS provides the bulk of state aid to counties and towns for the maintenance and improvement of local roads and bridges.

Counties, towns and villages to see significant boost in state support for local roads, bridges

Albany, N.Y., March 25—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C, Corning) said today that area counties will see significant increases in state support for local roads and bridges under the 2013-14 New York State budget being enacted this week.
