Senator O'Mara sponsoring online summer reading program, 'Dig Into Reading!'

Albany, N.Y., June 21—The New York State Senate today approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), the “Public Assistance Integrity Act,” to prohibit public assistance recipients from using their cash assistance benefit to purchase tobacco, alcoholic beverages or lottery tickets, and to combat other abuses of the public welfare system.

GROWN IN NEW YORK

It may not be getting the widespread public notice it deserves, but we've just taken a big step toward delivering long-awaited and badly needed property tax relief for New York State's farmers. 

That's because both houses of the Legislature have unanimously approved legislation I co-sponsor to place a 2% cap on annual agricultural land assessment increases.

This legislation was a cornerstone of “Grown in New York,” a comprehensive economic development strategy for New York State agriculture that I unveiled with my Senate Republican colleagues earlier this year.

State Legislature approves O'Mara-Palmesano legislation to designate 'Christopher J. Scott Memorial Highway' in honor of fallen local soldier

Albany, N.Y., June 19—The New York State Legislature has approved legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) to designate a portion of  State Route 14A between the town of Reading in Schuyler County and the village of Dundee in Yates County as the “Christopher J. Scott Memorial Highway.”

O'Mara: Senate gives final OK to legislation restoring funding for people with developmental disabilities

Albany, N.Y., June 18—The State Senate today gave final legislative approval to legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to restore a $90-million cut in funding to the state Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) that was included in this year’s state budget.

O'Mara. community help celebrate longest continuously owned family farm in New York State

 

On Saturday in the town of Howard, Steuben County, Senator O'Mara joined members of the community to help celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Howard Flats Farm -- the longest continuously owned family farm in New York State.

The dairy farm is currently operated by Phil and Juanita Bennett -- the fifth generation of the Bennett family to stay in farming, with the next generation ready to take over.

"This is a part of American history, a tradition that started 200 years ago with the Bennett family and now working on its sixth generation," O'Mara said at Saturday's community celebration.

Painted Post, N.Y., June 14--On Flag Day, Friday, June 14, 2013, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) will hold a ceremony at the Painted Post Village Hall (261 Steuben Street, Painted Post) to induct Steuben County native and Painted Post Mayor Roswell L. “Roz” Crozier, Jr. into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

O'Mara: Reports signal agreement on funding restoration for people with disabilities
