O'Mara critical of Cuomo failure to pull the plug on utility tax as part of budget amendments

Albany, N.Y., February 22—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), a member of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee,  today criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo for failing to take action on his own to reject a five-year extension of a  “staggering” energy tax first imposed on New Yorkers in 2009.

O’Mara said that he and his Senate Republican colleagues will continue to push for the proposal’s rejection during final state budget negotiations with the Assembly and the governor over the next several weeks.

Let's Start Here

It’s time to try something bold for the upstate economy.

Albany, N.Y., February 11—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) today threw the flag against a New York City legislator’s proposal to ban youth football in New York State.

This morning’s New York Daily News reports that Bronx Assemblyman Michael Benedetto (D-Bronx) has introduced legislation “to prohibit children younger than 11 from playing organized tackle football anywhere in the state.”

O’Mara strongly rejected the idea.

“Talk about being out of bounds,” said O’Mara.  “What we need to ban is knee-jerk legislation.  What’s next?  No more fastballs in Little League?  Enough.”
